Quality Natural Environment aims to protect, enhance and sustain Auckland's natural environment and landscape.
The Quality Natural Environment map focuses on strengthening the connections between the city's natural features in order to protect and enhance indigenous biodiversity, of the natural habitat in the city, and connect people to their surrounding landscapes.
The map shows the city's parks, waterways, volcanic features, urban forest and ecologically significant areas. It also shows where corridors and connections can be developed between areas to create a green network across the city. The potential for a continuous walkway along Auckland's coastlines is a key feature of the map.
The map sets out the key moves or outcomes that the council wants to achieve for a Quality Natural Environment in the future, and describes some of the projects that are underway or planned with respect to these.
